2nd place - Poster presentation - Diabesidad Symposium

During the Diabesidad Symposium organized by the Colombian Association of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, we were awarded the second place in the presentation of research papers. The winning project is titled "Folistatin, insulin resistance and body composition in Colombian adults"


Congratulations to the members who participated in this work that will soon be published in the Colombian Journal of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism.

Winners of the - FSFB - UniAndes Joint Call for Research Grants 2017

​In the Joint Research Call for Research Awards 2017 (FSFB-Uniandes) our laboratory received one of the funding awards. The project "Impact of acetylcarnitine and lipoic acid, alone or in combination, on physical performance, mitochondrial function and HDL functionality in physically active adults: Controlled clinical trial", obtained one of the awards that were given on this occasion within the category of clinical research.

Presentation of the research results of the project "Identification and validation of new biomarkers of insulin resistance in Colombian population" in the framework of version 99 of the Annual Meeting of Endocrine Society 2017 (ENDO 2017) in Orlando, FL. The papers presented were:

1. Plasma Pigment Epithelium-Derived Factor (PEDF) and Retinol Binding Protein 4 (RBP-4), but Not Chitinase-3-like Protein 1 (YKL-40) or Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) Allow Identification of Insulin Resistance in Non-Diabetic Subjects. Freddy Toloza

Winners of the - FSFB - UniAndes Joint Call for Research Grants 2016

The project "plasma levels of subtilisin proprotein convertase / kexin type 9 (PCSK9) as a prognostic factor after acute myocardial infarction" from our research group was awarded of the 6 research grants offered under this funding opportunity. The project will be conducted jointly Cardiology section of FSFB. The other winning projects encompass topics from public health to pathology, oncology and bone health.

1st place - Abstract presentation - Clinical research - III Meeting of Researchers FSFB-Uniandes

Lina Susana earned the first place among Clinical poster presenters during the Third FSFB-Uniandes Research meeting, a title granted by popular vote of the Meeting´s attendants, while competing with dozens of other great presenters. She presented the project "proprotein convertase subtilisin plasma levels / kexin type 9 (PCSK9) as a prognostic factor after acute myocardial infarction."

Our group participated in the Third FSFB-Uniandes Research meeting.

Jairo Arturo Pinzon, MD, Master of Science Candidate in Biological Sciences presented the results of his project "New Pathway of DNA Oxidative Demethylation: Diabetes Hyperglycemic Effect in Global DNA Methylation and Hydroxymethylation" which he currently develops jointly with the Genetics Laboratory at the Faculty of Sciences.

​Jose Luis Cardenas presented an original poster at the 75th American Diabetes Association Congress, held in June 2015 in Boston. He presented the work: "Correlates of Somatic and Autonomic Neuropathy in Colombian Patients with Type 2 Diabetes"
